Ministry Has No Jurisdiction To Repair Tanjung Emas Swimming Pool - Razali

MUAR, April 28 (Bernama) -- Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Razali Ibrahim said the ministry had no jurisdiction to repair the Olympic-size Tanjung Emas swimming pool because it belonged to the Johor state government.

"However, if the state government makes a formal request to hand over the swimming pool to the ministry, we will consider the proposal," he told Bernama here today when asked of the status of the pool that has remained damaged for the past 15 years.

Recently, the Muar Municipal Council president Abd Wahab Ridwan when met by Bernama had said that the council does have the RM2 million required to carry out repairs on the pool.

The swimming pool, situated on a 1.3-acre site, is not a public pool but rather a pool used by athletes for training.

Razali said the decision of whether to repair it themselves (state government) or hand it to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, would be the prerogative of the state government.

The pool is also surrounded by other sporting facilities like a golf club, tennis courts, futsal courts and venues for other sports activities.
