MUAR: The district PAS division presented educational aid, including cash, to nearly 200 needy students in the Maharani constituency.

The aid, donated by the party and several individuals, was presented by Maharani assemblyman Dr Mohammad Taslim at his service centre in Parit Bakar here.

Dr Mohammad said the aid presented was the party's social obligation to needy families with school-going children regardless of race and religious backgrounds.

"We realised how much a family needs to spend on books and uniforms alone for their children and we decided to help."

Dr Mohammad said although the goods were the bare-minimal, it would at least ease some of the family's financial burden.

He said that when he was studying, the Government provided him and other poor students with scholarships.

Today, he added, poor students would have to apply for study loans to be able to go for higher studies and to repay the loan after they completed their studies.

He said by right, good students whose families income is less than RM1,500 a month should be given scholarships to enter the universities.

Dr Mohammad, who was accompanied by Muar PAS leaders and Bakri MP Er Teck Hwa, also urged the students to study hard and help their families after they obtained good jobs.

He said they should also adopt the good values in life and be good and respected citizens, adding that they should not get involved in any negative social activity and crime.
