KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- Senator Datuk Dayang Mahani Tun Panglima Ahmad Raffae today criticised Seputeh member of Parliament (MP) Teresa Kok Suh Sim for her role in the nude ear-squat issue.
She said Kok had played up the issue and seemed to have questioned the police's credibility.
As a result, the police had been censured prematurely even though ear-squatting in the nude was a normal procedure especially in cases involving drug abuse, she told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
She said Kok's irresponsible action had not only forced Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid to fly to China to apologise over the incident but had also tarnished the country's image.
"We have to give credit to the police for safeguarding the country's interests but Teresa's action appeared as though she wanted to embarass the police," she said.
Dayang Mahani also described the action of Kok and Ipoh Timur MP Lim Kit Siang in bringing four Chinese nationals to Parliament after the incident as seeking cheap publicity.
Meanwhile, Senator Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff said she felt sad over what had happened and hoped proper action would be taken against the person who recorded the woman doing ear-squats in the lock-up.
